About

The Wall is Water is Shahana Rajani’s first solo presentation in the country, in collaboration with artists Ustad Abdul Aziz, Abdul Sattar and Aziza Ahmad, curated by Anushka Rajendran.

The exhibition foregrounds the mystic practices and lineages of drawing and painting through which fishing communities of the Indus Delta keep alive sacred ecologies of rivers and sea amidst the violence and erasure of infrastructure.

The exhibition features a new iteration of the moving image work Four Acts of Recovery commissioned by the Han Nefkens Foundation through the inaugural South Asian Video Art Production Grant, in collaboration with Prameya Art Foundation and with partners Nottingham Contemporary, UK; Ishara Art Foundation, Dubai, UAE; Museum of Contemporary Art (MOT), Tokyo, Japan; Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (M HKA), Belgium and Para Site (Hong Kong).

The film is a poetic tribute exploring community-based practices of painting river-murals and drawing talismans as ways of maintaining sacred relation to disappearing worlds.
